Man Brutally Attacks Ex-Girlfriend, Biting Off Her Lip After Breakup

A shocking and deeply disturbing case has emerged from South Carolina, where a 23-year-old woman was left permanently disfigured after her ex-boyfriend bit off her lower lip during a violent confrontation. The attack, which took place just days after the couple’s breakup, has horrified the community and sparked outrage across social media.

According to police reports, the victim — who has chosen to remain anonymous — met her ex-boyfriend, identified as Kyle Lawson, to discuss their recent separation. What was supposed to be a calm conversation quickly escalated into a heated argument. Witnesses nearby reported hearing screaming before calling 911.

When officers arrived, they found the young woman bleeding heavily and visibly traumatized. She was immediately rushed to the hospital, where surgeons discovered that a portion of her lip had been completely torn off. Doctors attempted to reattach the tissue, but due to the extent of the injury, reconstruction surgery was required.

Lawson fled the scene but was arrested hours later after a brief police chase. In his statement, he claimed he “didn’t mean to hurt her that badly,” saying the incident happened “in the heat of the moment.” Investigators, however, described the assault as deliberate and vicious.

“This was not an accident,” said Chief Deputy Mark Reynolds. “It was a calculated act of rage intended to cause permanent harm.”

The victim, speaking from her hospital bed, shared her heartbreak and pain:

“He told me he loved me. Then he did this. I can’t even recognize myself in the mirror now.”

She has since undergone multiple reconstructive procedures and faces months of recovery, both physically and emotionally. Her family has launched an online fundraiser to cover medical expenses and therapy, which has already drawn support and sympathy from thousands around the country.

Court documents reveal that Lawson had a history of controlling and abusive behavior, with prior complaints from former partners. Domestic violence advocates are now using this case to call for stricter protective measures and faster intervention in emotionally volatile breakups.

“This is what happens when warning signs are ignored,” said Lisa Garrett, director of the Safe Haven Women’s Center. “Abuse doesn’t always start with fists. It starts with control, isolation, and fear.”

Lawson is currently facing multiple felony charges, including aggravated assault and bodily mutilation, with prosecutors pushing for the maximum penalty. If convicted, he could face up to 30 years in prison.

As the case gains national attention, the victim has become a reluctant symbol of resilience. Despite the trauma, she has vowed to share her story to raise awareness about relationship violence.

“I want other women to know — if someone shows you anger or control, don’t wait until it’s too late,” she said.
