A police chase in Florida took a horrifying turn when a father, fleeing from officers at over 110 miles per hour, realized that his baby had fallen out of the moving car during the pursuit. The shocking incident, caught on bodycam and dashcam footage, has left both law enforcement and the public stunned â and questioning how something like this could even happen.
According to authorities, officers attempted to pull over a dark-colored vehicle after reports of reckless driving late at night. Instead of stopping, the driver â identified as 25-year-old Zachary Chervony â sped off, weaving through traffic at dangerously high speeds. Police say the chase reached 110 MPH at one point, with Chervony allegedly trying to evade capture after a suspected theft from a nearby store.
As the pursuit continued, officers noticed what appeared to be debris flying from the suspectâs car. It wasnât until moments later that dispatch received a call from a panicked bystander â reporting that a baby in a car seat had fallen out onto the road.
Footage later confirmed the unthinkable: the car seat, containing Chervonyâs infant child, had been improperly secured in the back seat and flew out during the high-speed chase.
Police immediately halted the pursuit to rescue the child. Miraculously, the baby survived with only minor injuries thanks to the car seatâs protective structure. Paramedics rushed the child to a nearby hospital for evaluation, and authorities described the infant as âextremely lucky to be alive.â
When Chervony was finally stopped and arrested, officers say he appeared distraught upon learning what had happened. âMy baby? My baby fell out?â he reportedly shouted as officers placed him in handcuffs. Witnesses at the scene said the moment was âheartbreaking,â but added that it was a direct consequence of reckless decisions.
âHe put that babyâs life at risk,â said one witness. âYou canât drive like that â not with a child in the car.â
Investigators later confirmed that Chervony was driving with a suspended license and had multiple outstanding warrants. He now faces a long list of charges, including child endangerment, reckless driving, fleeing police, and resisting arrest.
Authorities also credited the quick-thinking officers who stopped to save the baby rather than continuing the pursuit. âOur officers followed proper protocol,â the department said in a statement. âA childâs safety always comes before a chase.â
The shocking footage spread rapidly across social media, with viewers expressing disbelief that anyone would risk a childâs life in such a way. One user commented, âThis couldâve been a tragedy â that baby surviving is nothing short of a miracle.â
While the child has since been released into protective custody, the case serves as a chilling reminder of how one moment of panic or poor judgment can nearly cost an innocent life.
As for Chervony, he remains behind bars awaiting trial â facing the consequences of a decision that almost turned fatal. đđ¶
