In a case that has horrified investigators and stunned an entire community, a mother has been arrested after allegedly hiding her daughter in a drawer under her bed from birth until the child was three years old.
According to court documents, the woman — whose name is being withheld to protect the identity of the child — managed to conceal the girl’s existence from everyone around her, including family members, neighbors, and even healthcare workers.
Authorities say the shocking discovery came after a welfare check was conducted at the woman’s home following an anonymous tip. Officers were expecting to investigate a noise complaint but instead uncovered something far more disturbing.
When police entered the residence, they found a small toddler hidden in a wooden drawer built into the frame of the mother’s bed. The child was malnourished, unable to speak, and appeared to have never been outside.
“It’s one of the most distressing things our officers have ever encountered,” said Detective Sarah Lewis during a press briefing. “The child had no documentation, no medical history, and no record of ever being born. It was as if she didn’t exist.”
