In a moment of pure instinct and courage, an Alliance, Ohio police officer is being hailed as a hero after saving a choking baby’s life during a tense emergency call caught entirely on bodycam video.
The incident occurred on May 9, 2024, when dispatch received a frantic 911 call from a mother reporting that her infant had stopped breathing. Within minutes, Officer Nicholas Wright arrived at the family’s home, where chaos and fear filled the air. The bodycam footage shows the officer sprinting to the front door as a distraught woman hands him her limp baby.
“He’s not breathing! Please help!” the mother can be heard shouting.
Without hesitation, Officer Wright immediately took charge. Years of training kicked in as he quickly began performing back blows and infant CPR techniques in the doorway while instructing the panicked mother to stay calm. Every second counted, and Wright’s composure under pressure made all the difference.
After a few tense moments, the video captures the sound everyone had been praying for — the baby’s gasp for air. Relief swept through the home as the tiny infant began to cry, a sound that brought the officer and family to tears.
“There it is, there it is,” Wright can be heard saying softly in the footage, holding the baby carefully in his arms. “You’re okay, little one. You’re okay.”
Paramedics arrived shortly after to transport the baby to Alliance Community Hospital, where doctors confirmed the child was safe and recovering well. The department later released a statement commending Officer Wright’s “exceptional professionalism, rapid response, and heroic life-saving action.”
Chief Scott Griffith of the Alliance Police Department praised Wright in a public address:
“This is why we train so hard — so that in those critical moments, we can act fast and make a difference. Officer Wright’s quick thinking turned what could have been a tragedy into a miracle.”
The video has since gone viral, viewed millions of times across social media platforms. Many users flooded the comments with gratitude and admiration, calling Wright a “real-life hero.” Parents across the country shared how the video inspired them to learn basic infant CPR techniques, a vital skill that can save lives in emergencies like this.
The baby’s mother, who has asked to remain unnamed, later issued a heartfelt message of thanks:
“I’ll never be able to repay him for what he did. He saved my baby — he gave me back my whole world.”
This powerful story serves as a reminder of the incredible dedication shown by first responders every day — people who run toward danger, fear, and chaos to bring safety and hope. Thanks to one officer’s calm under pressure, what began as a nightmare for one Ohio family ended in relief, gratitude, and life.
