In a story that has stunned the nation and brought hope amid devastation, a missing baby was found alive in a tree after a violent tornado ripped through a small Tennessee town, leveling homes and scattering debris for miles.
According to authorities, the infant — just four months old — was discovered miraculously unharmed, nestled in a car seat that had somehow become lodged high in a tree after being swept up by the storm.
“It’s nothing short of a miracle,” said Deputy Chris Taylor, one of the first responders on the scene. “We were searching through rubble, expecting the worst. Then we heard a faint cry — and there he was, hanging from a tree like an angel had placed him there.”
The baby’s parents had reportedly been sheltering inside their home when the tornado, classified as an EF-3 with winds exceeding 140 mph, tore through the area late Sunday night. The powerful storm completely destroyed the family’s house, tossing vehicles, furniture, and even parts of the roof across neighboring fields.
The infant’s mother told rescuers that she had placed her baby in a car seat for safety moments before the storm hit. “Everything happened so fast,” she said tearfully. “The wind just took everything — the walls, the roof, the crib — and I thought I lost him.”
Search crews spent hours combing through the wreckage before a volunteer spotted something unusual about 30 feet up in a nearby tree. It was the baby’s car seat, tangled in branches but remarkably secure. The baby was still buckled in and appeared calm when rescuers reached him.
Footage from the rescue shows emergency responders carefully lowering the infant to safety as onlookers wept and cheered. Paramedics later confirmed that the baby suffered no serious injuries, only minor scrapes and mild dehydration.
“This is one of those moments that reminds you why you do this job,” said firefighter Lance Morgan. “In all the destruction, to find a baby alive — it’s beyond words.”
The Tennessee Emergency Management Agency reported multiple fatalities and dozens of injuries from the storm, which carved a destructive path through at least three counties. Thousands of residents remain without power as cleanup efforts continue.
Meanwhile, the baby’s story has gone viral, with social media users calling it a “miracle from heaven.” Photos of the child, peacefully sleeping after being rescued, have been shared thousands of times.
Governor Bill Lee also released a statement praising the rescuers and offering condolences to families affected by the tornado. “Amid so much loss, this child’s survival is a powerful reminder of hope,” he said.
As recovery crews continue their work, the baby’s family says they are grateful beyond words. “We lost everything,” the mother said, “but we still have him. That’s all that matters.”
