When Emily and Jake Patterson left their home that morning, they thought they had plenty of time to get to the hospital. Emily’s contractions were still fifteen minutes apart — or so they thought.

When asked later how she stayed calm, Emily laughed.
“I didn’t. But when I heard that first cry, everything else disappeared. It was just love. Pure love.”

The city later recognized Officer Lopez for his quick thinking and courage. When asked what he remembered most, he smiled and said,
“Her strength. That woman didn’t need a hospital. She needed faith — and a parking spot.”
