In a story that has horrified an entire community, police say a pair of parents were caught shoplifting inside a department store while their two young children were trapped in a burning car just outside. The shocking event, captured on surveillance and bodycam footage, unfolded in what authorities are calling one of the most disturbing cases of neglect they’ve seen in years.
According to police reports, the incident took place on a rainy afternoon when firefighters were called to a parking lot engulfed in thick smoke. Witnesses told investigators they heard screams coming from a vehicle and immediately tried to help, only to find the car doors locked from the inside.
As flames spread from the engine compartment, bystanders and first responders rushed to break the windows. Bodycam footage later released shows firefighters battling both the blaze and the clock, desperately pulling the terrified children from the burning vehicle.
